| Army seeks 3 variants of camo to replace UCP |
[29 Dec 2010|10:40am] |
It's taken too much time, and money, for the US Army to admit that the Universal Camouflage Pattern is a failure, unless the fighting is restricted to gravel quarries and the enemy happens to be from Brit sci-fi shows.
As the testing to replace the UCP continues, wasting millions more dollars in repeating previous tests, in another sign of failed leadership by restricting the existing and highly effective Multicam (given the name Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Patern, or OCP) uniforms to Afghanistan.
Effectively, after spending tens of millions of dollars in "research" and procurement of what is little more than a failed, horrible copy of the MARPAT design, the US Army fielded the equivalent of East German Nationale Volksarmee's Strichtarn. Referred to as "Einstrich-Keinestrich", the pattern would fade to solid green in the distance, eliminating any concealing qualities it had up close.
The Army would be better served by looking into relieving those who pushed the decision to use the UCP and remove them from service for gross incompetence. Following that should be investigations into whether those involved financially benefited in selecting UCP and ignoring the more effective camouflage patterns in repeated tests.
/rant
From the Army Times.
The Army is shopping for three new combat uniforms — a woodland variant, a desert variant and a “transitional” variant that covers everything in between.
As the search begins, it is evident the current Universal Camouflage Pattern is not even an option.
Officials are adamant that the selection will not be a “fashion contest” in which Pentagon generals pick the one they like best. Instead, hundreds of test hours and mountains of data will be compiled to determine the right mix of colors and patterns.

Not looking forward to seeing Tom Cruise as Oberst Claus von Stauffenberg. Outside of planning and the aborted attempts, there's very little of the events on July 20, 1944, to produce anything outside of historical drama. The assassination plot has already been used as backdrop in The Night of the Generals.
Unfortunately, Hollywood is likely to go for overkill on the drama or make it another abysmal action film (Mission Ungleiblich: Waulkeure).

I hope you may be interested in contributing to this sequel to ‘Blood N Sex’, published late 2007. This book was such a success, that we are doing it again! I and a few other writers, artists, and photographers are currently looking for people who have short stories/poems/art, directed towards the bdsm, s/m lifestyles, gothic, vampiric erotica, fetish persona's of an adult nature. Who would like their piece of work published for a compiled book, I plan to have published by the end of 2008.
There are no fees, and each contributor will receive 2% of each copy sold (copies bought by other contributors not included). This is simply a way to promote/get your smaller stories published.
Each contributor will have the opportunity to write their own profile/biography with black and white photo (please have copyright to these photos or written permission from photographer to use in this publication), after their story. As a way of explaining, promoting other pieces, and get their name out there. Copyright is strictly the owner of each author. If we receive enough works, I personally will be purchasing the distribution rights, which will allow this book to be available worldwide.
If you are interested, please respond to this post or email me. kanamimi @ gmail.com

Book Description This is the anticipated sequel compilation of talented artists, writers, poets, and photographers in the Alt Goth genre, to 'Blood N Sex'. They are from across the country, to bring you the best of their work.
Come one, come all. Embrace the evils that lurk within you. The hidden desires waiting to be released. Anyone up for the strange and exotic, the dark and the creepy. All are welcome. As long as you have an open mind. Blood N Sex is a compilation of talented artists, poets, writers, and photographers, who all have one thing in common. The strange and unusual. This Gothic-erotic journey explores all things wicked and craved. It forces you to lust the evils of human-kind. Be horrified at how long it's been there, in the back of your mind, waiting to be let out. Like a slave begging to be controlled. Where will your desires lead you? Or where will you lead them....

I'm really happy to have found this community. A burlesque performer and Seattle native (that's me on stage in my icon), I am a seamstress, milliner and muse.
Since a young age I've had a fascination with WWII German uniforms, particularly those of the Waffen SS, Allgemeine SS, and the Gestapo leather trench and fedora.
Of course, I can't exactly express this fascination-turned-fetish anywhere without having it misconstrued and misunderstood by most people as some sort of racist or anti-semitic thing. Like some of you here, my own attraction to handsome men Nazi uniforms is simply the look, taboo, and suggested danger/control it represents, not the ideology or politics.
While my family is Austrian and German (my father's family immigrated from Vienna after the war), I think it really started with a TV show I watched as a child called 'Allo,Allo'. One of my earliest memories of reacting in this way to something suggestively sexual was watching Herr Flick order Helga to straighten the seams of her stockings. It became, and still is, one of my favorite shows of all time because of the consistent dom/sub interaction between Flick and Helga. It's a pure fetish fantasy thinly veiled in comedy.
For your amusement, I found these clips on Youtube. From the 1st season; Helga and Otto's "Stocking" scene starts at about 2:20...
( Two more behind the cut ) XOXO Tchüss!

Below is a music video we directed for Hearse Driver written by EJ Wells, piano music intro by Richard Coleman. I figured it might be applicable here as there is a uniform involved in it, I also figured I'd post it because I have no shame, so yeah, enjoy. As always, you are more than welcome to cross post the HELL out of this. Email it to friends, post in your own Live Journals or on Myspace. Even if only one other person happens to see it, that always helps and is appreciated. Especially if the person who happens to see it is a Hollywood producer who has lots of money and poor judgement when it comes to handing out hefty paying contracts to inexperienced film writers who use too much profanity.
